Alto has always been the best seller for Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) for its low price (as compared to other new cars), excellent fuel average and compact size allowing to easily navigate through narrow spaces. However, the small hatchback is facing bad fate in terms of rumors and sales, as well, leaving enthusiasts in awe.

A couple of days back, the Suzuki Alto found itself caught in a maelstrom of uncertainty, with the fake news of its discontinuation and ban on motorways. And afterwards, its once-promising sales figures plunged last month has made the situation more stressed for the car. A decrease observed in the sale of any car can be taken as a common thing but for prominent model like Suzuki Alto, its rare.

As per Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) month-on-month report, Suzuki Alto sale has been decreased by 29% last month. PSMC managed to sell 3,561 units of the car in last month compared to 5,039 in January 2025.

Overall, Pak Suzuki’s sales reduced by 35%, selling 5,330 vehicles in this February against 8,250 cars in January 2025. The company sold 3,561 units of Alto, 282 units of Suzuki Cultus, 207 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 651 units of Suzuki Swift, 9 units of Suzuki Bolan, 510 units of Suzuki Ravi and 110 units of Every.

Ban & Discontinuation Rumors

Last week, rumors began circulating on social media claiming that the Suzuki Alto, PSMC’s all-time bestseller, had been discontinued. To add fuel to the fire, another rumor suggested that the National Highway Authority (NHA) had banned the Alto from motorways.

To investigate the matter, we reached out to PSMC officials, who promptly debunked both rumors. They clarified that the Alto has not been discontinued. Instead, the company is likely to stop production of the Alto VX variant, which lacks essential safety features like airbags and ABS. Listening this was not actually surprising, as we have already written a piece on it.

As for the second rumor, the NHA has issued a notification rubbishing the news of Alto ban on motorways. In its official statement, the Motorway Police clarified:

“A baseless and misleading claim is circulating on social media, stating that a specific vehicle (Alto) has been banned from entering the motorway. The Motorway Police would like to clarify that this news is not based on any credible or official source and holds no truth. The public is urged not to trust or spread unverified information. For accurate and authentic updates, always refer to official sources of the Motorway Police.”
