Suzuki Jimny 2020 launched in Pakistan: First Look Review
This is the fourth generation of Suzuki Jimny, which was launched back in 2019 by Pak Suzuki. It is available in only one variant from 3S dealerships of Pak Suzuki. Suzuki Jimny is a small, capable 4×4 offroader. It has some similarities in design language with the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes G Class.
Worldwide, Jimny’s fourth generation is popular and is considered in high regard, especially by auto and offroading enthusiasts. Jimny is known for its toughness and the ability to tackle muddy pits, dense woods, and rocks. Jimny has preserved its heritage design since the first generation. The ex-factory price of this vehicle is PKR 3,990,000.
Exterior of Suzuki Jimny
The exterior of Suzuki Jimny is boxier in shape and has sharp cuts in the design language. As it is made for offroading, Jimny has an ample amount of ground clearance to go over large rocks and uneven surfaces. At the front, there are round halogen headlamps and turn indicators. In some international variants, you can also find LED headlamps in place of halogen ones.
There is a lot of black trim used at the front of Jimny, including a black bumper with a mesh grille. Moreover, there are no fog lamps given; however, cutouts are provided for them in the front bumper. The wheel arches have black plastic fenders. Jimny also comes with 15-inch steel wheels and imported Dunlop tires. The side mirrors are manual and are finished in black plastic.
At the rear, there is a defogger, a high-mounted brake lamp, washer and wiper for the rear window. There are character lines given on the roof and a radio antenna. The taillights are integrated into the rear bumper, which is also made up of black plastic. The taillights are also halogen in nature.
A spare wheel is attached to the rear with the trunk door, just like conventional SUVs. The trunk door opens sideways or horizontally. The key fob is also conventional without any provision for a keyless entry system. There are five exterior colors available: yellow, silver, black, white, and green.
Interior of Suzuki Jimny
There is a lot of black plastic used in the dashboard and the door trim. The interior upholstery is also black fabric. There are speakers integrated into the front doors. However, there are no power windows and power mirrors. The ignition is also key-operated, and there is no push-start feature. There are not many features in this Pakistani variant. In international variants of Jimny, the vehicle comes loaded with basic features like power windows.
The driver seat does not have a height adjustment feature. It has an electronic power steering and a digital fuel gauge. There is no infotainment system in this vehicle. It has manual air conditioning and heater. The rear seats can be folded to increase the boot space. When the rear seats are in the upright position, the boot space is very minimal.
Performance
Suzuki Jimny has a four-cylinder K15B 1.5L petrol engine. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Since this is a four-wheel-drive vehicle, there is a gear that operates the four-wheel-drive system. The engine produces 75kW of power and 130Nm of torque. In order to obtain serious offroad performance from Jimny, Suzuki has built it on a rigid ladder frame. Moreover, there are 3-link rigid axle suspensions with coil springs and ample departure and approach angles for easier offroading.
The engine provided in this vehicle is not tuned to provide rapid acceleration from a standstill but to provide performance in such a manner to enhance the offroading nature of this vehicle.

Comfort and Handling
The Suzuki Jimny comes with a hill descent control feature, which makes it easier to travel downwards from a hill or an inclined slope. There is also a traction-off feature given in this vehicle. The headroom is ample for both the front and the rear passengers due to the boxy shape of the vehicle.
However, the legroom is small for a tall person in the rear. In order to improve handling, Suzuki has provided Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). The rigid ladder frame chassis makes driving Jimny around in the city a little bit uncomfortable compared to family sedans and hatchback.
Safety
There are two airbags given in this vehicle: one for the driver and one for the front passenger. The vehicle is equipped with a solid grab handle integrated into the dashboard for the front passenger, especially useful when Jimny is going offroading. There are ISOFIX mountings in the rear, immobilizer, brake assist function, ABS, and hill-hold control. Jimny has 3-point ELR seatbelts as well.
Verdict
Suzuki Jimny is no doubt a capable offroading machine; however, the model launched in Pakistan does not have basic features like power windows and power mirrors. Other features like an infotainment system and screen are also missing. Introducing these features can further increase the Jimny’s popularity.
Spare parts are easily available from 3S dealerships of Suzuki. However, the resale market can be tricky since Jimny still has not established strong roots in Pakistan.

This is the stupidest version of Jimny anywhere in the world without even power windows. Does is come as CBU from Japan? It has 1.5l K15B engine developed in-house by “Maruti”-Suzuki India and it is manufactured only there while there were reports of Jimny being made in India this time besides Japan but later it was revealed only 5 door Sierra version will be made in India where it is currently under development while only 3 door version will be made in Japan, So does Suzuki import engine from India and assemble Jimny in Japan and then export it ? I am not sure if it affects the availaibility of parts.
Looks ugly. Who would waste their money on this piece of junk?!
Bahria Town.
They are a bulk customer of Jimny.
“Electric” power steering, not “electronic” power steering.
Btw they need to switch to 4-wheel disc brake ASAP. It has been long overdue.
It would be nice if they come up with a 1000cc version, though Suzuki doesn’t have any modern engine for these robust purposes.
Suzuki does have a 1.0l boosterjet turbo petrol engine which produces almost same power as this one which they used in Baleno hatchback in EU and India spec cars. They can’t bring it here for 2 reasons. First, the engine is only made in India and no where else. Second, small 1000cc or 1200cc Turbo engines are popular in international markets but not in Pakistan as our fuel quality is very low for turbo engines and there will be many issues.
True, it looks bad and does not even get basic features, one should instead buy a used fortuner.
