Where even the traditional car makers aka ‘BIG 3’ in Pakistan are in shambles, announcing production shutdowns bearing losses in terms of profit and sales, our neighbors are embarked on embracing the world largest electric car giant ‘Tesla’.

As per Indian media, Tesla is in talks with Indian government regarding investment plan to establish an EV assembly plant carrying the capacity to produce half a million cars per year. The company also want to use India as its export base with the purpose to export its vehicles to markets in Indo-pacific region.

As part of the plan, initial cost of the vehicles is set at INR 2 million which is twice the price of India’s least expensive electric vehicle, the MG Comet, and INR 500,000 more expensive than the highly popular Tata Nexon EV, which holds the title of the best-selling electric car in the country.

Sources stated, “Tesla has come to us with an ambitious plan, and we are confident that the movement will be positive this time around, especially as it involves both local manufacturing and exports.”

The discussions are being spearheaded by the commerce and industry ministries of the country as the government aims to secure a ‘perfect deal’ agreement while keeping in view the fair competition.

India urged Tesla to sell locally produced cars in the Indian market. While the company was interested in testing the market before setting up a factory. However, the talks concluded in a deadlock.
