Earlier, we reported that MG Pakistan has increased the price of MG HS SUV and reopened the bookings. Let’s uncover the facts behind this move and see what’s cooking at the MG house.
MG Motors has issued an official notification on all social media handles to inform the new price of CBU units of HS, which is PKR 5,749,000. The old price was PKR 5,449,000, meaning an increase of PKR 3 lacs. Meanwhile, the booking price is PKR 20 lacs.
The Reason
Remember when we predicted that MG prices would go up and got to the bottom of it and found out about the import duty hike of MG cars? Basically, what happened was Pakistan Customs increased the custom unit value of MG HS from $11,632 per unit to $13,314. That means MG now has to pay around PKR 3,20,000 more tax on each unit of HS, so the customers have to chip in the extra three lacs. In simpler words, MG is not keeping the amount in their pocket; they are paying it to Pakistan Customs.
What is new in the car that’s worth the extra three lacs? A fully digital LCD meter. According to our sources, the old digital meter cluster will be replaced with an LCD meter in the newly booked MG HS cars. The company will also add a silver color to the MG HS lineup. However, these additions are not yet confirmed by the company.
Price of CKD Units?
Javed Afridi recently broke the good news of MG Pakistan’s first locally produced MG HS. The first one is on the wheels, and more are on the way. But there’s no clue about the price of these locally produced CKD units. The CKD price will most likely be less than the CBU price, but how much? Fingers crossed!
Another question is why is MG reopening the bookings for CBU units of the HS SUV? According to the Auto Development Policy, a car manufacturer cannot import CBU units of a car once the local assembly starts. So, if MG HS CKD units are under production, what is the point of reopening the bookings for CBU units?
