Toll Tax for Lahore-Islamabad Motorway INCREASED!
The MS/More, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), has increased the toll tax rate for Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2). The authority has increased the rates by 10% and will be implemented from August 26, 2021.
According to media reports, National Highway Authority (NHA) and FWO have signed a 20-year agreement. Under this deal, the FOW increases the toll tax by 10% every year, the reports stated.
As per the notification, the new toll tax will be Rs910 as compared to previous Rs830. Meanwhile, NHA has displayed the new rates on all interchanges.
On the other hand, the toll tax for Peshawar-Islamabad (M1) is same since 2018 which is Rs240. Similarly, the toll tax for Pindi Bhattian-Shorkot Motorway and Lahore-Kot Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3) are also same since 2018.
Last Year’s Price Increase
In August 2020, the government increased the toll tax on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway by 10%. According to the notification, the revised toll tax for cars was Rs830 from the previous Rs750. Meanwhile, the tax for buses reached to Rs2770.
Although the people have shown displeasure over the increase, however, it is done under an agreement. Hence, there is no role of the federal government in it. The apparent reason of this constant increase is that Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway is the most travelled motorway in the country. Hundreds of people travelled on this road on daily basis as it offers a smooth and comfortable drive between these two cities.
The motorway system has revolutionized the intercity travel in Pakistan. The current and previous governments have further enhanced the motorway system across the country to provide comfortable journey to the citizens. A number of new motorways are being constructed under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
