The all-new Toyota Yaris is finally here. It is important to mention here that the booking of the car has already begun on 19th March 2020. However,  due to coronavirus, the company will only be doing a soft launch in the coming days.

Toyota Yaris comes in as a replacement for the iconic 1.3-liter variants of Toyota Corolla, and it will be interesting to see how well the new entrant will turn out to be. Toyota Indus discontinued the XLi and GLi variants of Corolla to pave the way for the all-new Yaris in the local market. Toyota Yaris is being introduced in six different variants depending upon the engine capacity. In this article, we will look at how the new basic variant of Yaris stands as a replacement for the old XLi variant of Toyota Corolla. Apart from its replacement, it will also directly compete with Honda City 1.3L i-VTEC MT and Suzuki Ciaz 1.3L MT.

Before any further delay, let’s have a look at a brief comparison of Toyota Yaris GLi 1.3 MT with Toyota Corolla XLi 1.3 MT.

Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve DOHC with dual VVT-I 1329 cc 1NR-FE engine with sequential multi-port fuel injection (SFI) system. It can produce a maximum output power of 98 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 123 Nm at 4200 rpm. Yaris is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

On the other hand, Toyota Corolla XLi 1.3-litre MT is powered by a water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve DOHC with VVT-I 2NZ-FE 1299 cc engine with sequential multi-port fuel injection (SFI) system.
