Tesla Launches Model S P100D – The Fastest Car Anyone Can Buy!

Tesla Motors and their CEO Elon Musk have finally unveiled the long rumored 100-kWh batteries for both Model S and Model X. Normally I would shuffle the summary of the details, I would follow in my piece but as the ‘headline’ suggests this is no ordinary news so straight to the good stuff.

Tesla Model S P90D
Just a little less than two years back, Tesla showed off the Model S P85D, then fastest four-door production car ever sold. And if neither P85D nor P90D were quick enough for you, the new battery pack can now take the 5+2 seater Model S rocketing from standstill to 100km/h in a matter of 2.5 seconds; making Model S, the fastest-accelerating mass produced car ever and the fourth fastest to ever go on sale.

Top 5 Fastest Cars ever produced
Tesla Model S P100D is the only mass produced car to make it to the top 5!

Overall it’s only behind the three ultra-expensive hyper-cars, Porsche 918 Spyder (2.2 seconds), Bugatti Chiron (2.4 seconds) and Ferrari LaFerrari (2.4 seconds) all three of them cost multiple times more than the Tesla and are produced in limited quantities. To put it into perspective, only 918 Porsche 918 Spyders would ever be built; Bugatti Chiron is limited to 500 and Ferrari LaFerrari will be available to 499 customers. While on the other hand, Model S P100D being a mass-produced luxury sedan can be bought by anyone who has the money i.e. $134,500. Even more so importantly, in the ‘top 5’ Model S P100D remains the only car which can be purchased ‘new’ since all of the other four have reportedly been sold out meaning that even if you have the money to pay the price, buying a used one will be your only resort.

The new battery pack joins the line-up of 60-kWh, 75-kWh and 90-kWh batteries, making it the one with the highest capacity; around 10% more than the previous highest. Keeping with Tesla’s consistent variant naming scheme, both Model S and X’s 100-kWh variants will be called the ‘P100D’. In addition to making the already ludicrous mode even more ludicrous, the 100-kWh battery now gives Model S, a range of 507-km over thirty-four kilometers more than the 90-kWh 473-km range. Subsequently, Model X P100D will be able to go on for 465-km without needing a recharge, up from the 402-km range of its P90D sibling.

Model X P100D

Seeing Model S P100D, a car which clocks weighing scales at 2.3-tonnes plus and can seat up to five adults and two children at the same-time coming with a 0-100-km/h time, which takes hyper-cars to shame, I wonder what may happen if Tesla now, with all its battery and motor profess goes on to make a super-car of its own. Will Tesla become the world’s first car brand to break that under 2-second mark for road-legal cars? You never know! Comment your point of view below!

Enough with this Tesla crap. Please stop it.

    Why?
    Any reason?

    Stunned o.0

Actually the under 2 second mark has been broken by the Koienegsegg Regera, that has a top speed of 250mph and does 0-60mph in 1.6 seconds. Top Gear recently did a review of it. As for the tesla, I’m glad they’re innovating like the Apple did with the iPhones, unfortunately those Teslas won’t ever come to Pakistani market for quite a while due to poor infrastructure and economy.

  5. Adan Ali says

Yes but the numbers used here are as tested by the company and Koenigsegg says that Regera does 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds which is an understatement really but we will need to wait and see when they give it a controlled public run, Top Gear has in the past manipulated tuning and settings during their reviews so I don’t find their numbers solid enough to base my comparison on. Anyways its good to see a constructive comment coming up! And yeah maybe Teslas might never come to Pakistan but if Tesla gets some sort of success in India and they decide to expand in sub-continent, we may come in next – You never know! Again thanks for the comment!

To be honest Adan cars have already reached the peak of automotive performance and anything before 2.0s for the average consumer is an overkill. I mean i am not saying that it should stop but the thing is more speed and power makes a car more dangerous too. Maybe we are not ready yet. Other than that Tesla is great.

    nobody likes you! 😛

  8. Awais Yousaf says

i really wish they come to Pakistan!

  9. Omar Farooq says

Me too! I know there will be some elites who will import it but seeing the base price of 2016 land cruiser is $6000 more than a Huracan in the states, it’s gonna cost a lot. Why do good things not come to Pakistan? 🙁

  10. Awais Yousaf says

If people in Pakistan can buy a 35Lack Vezel then they can definitely buy a 40lack (approx) tesla model 3 at least.

  11. Omar Farooq says

Oh lol sorry my bad for not doing proper research, the regera is still in production and 2.8 seconds will be a downgrade from the agera to be honest. Anyway teslas are in India currently, Elon Musk announced it himself a few months back when the model X was launched. I hope we see some new cars on the roads soon, if things continue to remain this way I’m getting out of here +_+

  12. Omar Farooq says

I sure hope to see some, the suspension won’t hold up on most roads though due to bumps and potholes.

  13. Omar Farooq says

Don’t read the article if it bothers you so much

  14. Ammar says

It does 0-60mph quicker than most cars but how long can it sustain it? The batteries and the motor will heat up pretty quickly and the car will throttle down. I doubt a Tesla can even finish a track.

  15. Guest again says

Depending on how you define performance. As far as acceleration is considered, yes your point is valid.
But if performance starts to be defined differently, like passenger comfort, ride quality, being maintenance-free or being low-maintenance, fuel economy, road safety, etc and most of all equality on the road (only cars improve while trucks, rickshaw and other commercial vehicles seldom see these upgrades) then we can see many frontiers still have to be conquered.

  16. Awais Yousaf says

Well the people who will buy this car will definitely drive it in a civilized manner and in a city with better roads. Using a Tesla for long drive in Pakistan will never be a good idea anyways.

  17. Usman Haider Sheikh says

Aren’t electric cars have a zero rated custom duty tariff? if so then it just needs a person affording a tesla model s as a 4th, 5th car to exploit it, Tesla certified used vehicles are available from Japan too.
