As Hyundai Nishat has launched a new 1.6L variant of its sedan, Hyundai Elantra. The new Elantra 1.6L GL is up against the base variant of its fellow C-segment sedan, Toyota Corolla, but it will also compete with the top variants of B-segment sedans, Yaris, City, and Alsvin. Let’s start with the specs and features comparison of Elantra 1.6L GL and Yaris 1.5L ATIV X CVT.

Dimensions
Hyundai Elantra GL is 4620 mm long, 1800 mm wide, and 1450 mm tall. Yaris is 4425 mm long, 1730 mm wide, and 1475 mm tall. So, Elantra is longer and wider than Yaris, but Yaris has a better height than Elantra.
Engine and Transmission
Elantra GL has a 1.6-litre MPi engine that produces 126 horsepower and 155 Nm of torque. Yaris ATIV X has a 1.5-litre SFi engine that produces 106 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. Elantra has more power and acceleration than Yaris.
Meanwhile, Hyundai’s sedan has 6-speed automatic transmission against 7-speed CVT in Yaris ATIV X. Top-of-the-line Yaris also has two drive modes (ECO and Sport), Elantra GL does not offer any drive mode options.
Exterior
Elantra’s looks are way superior than Yaris’, we all know that. Elantra GL has Automatic Tetra LED headlamps, LED DRLs, and LED tail lights, while Yaris ATIV X comes with Four Beam Halogen headlights, LED DRLs, and LED rear lights. Yaris has fog lamps, Elantra does not.
The side view mirrors in Elantra GL are auto retractable and powered and only powered in Yaris ATIV X. Elantra has 16-inch and Yaris has 15-inch alloy wheels. Elantra GL has a physical key with trunk opener button, Yaris ATIV X has a smart key with trunk opener button.
Elantra GL has a Sunroof, Yaris ATIV X misses out on this feature.
Interior
Both Elantra GL and Yaris ATIV X have fabric seats. Elantra GL has 6-way manual adjustment in driver seat, Yaris ATIV X has 4-way manual adjustment in driver seat. Both cars have 4-way manual adjustment in passenger seat.
Elantra GL has tilt and telescopic steering, Yaris ATIV X’s steering has only tilt adjustment. Both cars have a 4.2-inch TFT LCD MID display. Elantra GL has a manual climate control system with rear AC vents. Yaris ATIV X has an automatic climate control system, and no rear AC vents.
Yaris ATIV X has an engine push start, Elantra GL does not. Elantra GL has an 8-inch infotainment screen, the size of this screen in Yaris ATIV X is 6.8-inch.
Safety
Both cars have dual airbags, ABS + EBD, and rear camera. Yaris has a better safety suite with features like hill start assist, traction control, and vehicle stability control.
Price
The price of new Elantra 1.6L GL is Rs. 4,299,000. The price of Yaris 1.5L ATIV X CVT is Rs. 3,499,000. As you can see, there’s a price difference of 8 lac rupees.
