Bajaj Auto Is Making A Motorcycle From The Steel Of Its Decommissioned Air Craft Carrier ‘INS Vikrant’

This is a neat idea. India’s Aircraft Carrier served the country and was scrapped a few years ago, but an unlikely company bought all its metal instead of sending it to the bin. That company is Bajaj Auto, who is now building a range of motorcycles that will have metal from the INS Vikrant. The name of the new motorcycle Bajaj V, a dedication towards the carrier.

Bajaj Auto, which is the second-largest motorcycle manufacturer in India, said in a press release,” “We purchased the Vikrant metal and processed it to be a part of our new brand being unveiled on Feb. 1,” stating further,”The new bike will, therefore, preserve a significant piece of Indian military history.”

INS Vikrant is remembered for her services in the year of its commissioning to the Indian Navy in 1961 when Indian troops took control of Goa, which was a Portuguese colony back then, and the 1971 Indo-Pak War as well. The British made aircraft carrier was decommissioned in 1997 and sent to the scrapyard in 2014.

INS Vikrant is replaced by the Indian-built aircraft carrier, also named INS Vikrant, which is to be commissioned into service by 2018.

Bajaj V will be a 150cc petrol-powered motorcycle that is expected to be unveiled on February 1 this year. However, this isn’t the first time Bajaj has taken military names; they also have the 145cc Bajaj Chetak, named after the horse of Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
