The Borgward SUV BX5 has been spotted again in Pakistan, but interestingly this time with a green official number plate. It is pertinent to mention that the car has not been officially launched in the country; neither its production is started.
Sazgaar Engineering Works:
Earlier media reports stated that Sazgaar Engineering Works, CNG 4-stroke rickshaw makers, was supposed to launch this car in 2019. The media reports also claimed that the same company is currently importing these vehicles.
“The vehicles will be assembled/manufactured under the brand name of BAIC,” the notification read.
PakWheels Probe:
However, talking to PakWheels, Sazgaar denied the reports that company has imported these SUVs. “We have no link with these cars in Pakistan,” the company said.
Furthermore, there is no tender for the purchase of this car; Henceforth, our guess is these cars have been gifted to the government institution by the Chinese company.
What is Borgward?
Borgward is originally a German company, which terminated its operations back in 1963. Chinese auto manufacturers, Beiqi Foton Motors, have revived the company, which is a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC).
Foton is a commercial vehicle division of BAIC and manufactures SUVs, jeeps, and trucks. Borgward vehicles are currently present in China, Malaysia, and European markets. The Borgward spotted in Pakistan, comes in two types of variants in Malaysia. One is 2.0-liter all-wheel drive, and the second is 1.4-liter two-wheel-drive.
There is no news of price and official launch date of this car in Pakistan as yet. Henceforth, it’s running on Pakistani roads with an official number, really is a mystery.
