Cars With Highest Appreciation in Resale
Unlike all over the world, where cars are considered a liability, in Pakistan, they are considered a big investment. Most people even spend their entire life savings and sell their properties to buy a car as an investment.
The first buying factor for almost every Pakistani car buyer is the resale value of the car. This means how much a car will appreciate when they sell it after 3-5 years or more. Surprisingly, Pakistan is a country where cars appreciate instead of depreciate after a few years of usage.
Although, throughout the usage, you will spend a good amount of money on their running costs, maintenance, and breakdowns, so technically, cars aren’t basically an investment but a liability. However, the Pakistani people still consider them a long-term investment that has been appreciated over the years.
Here, we’ll list some of the best cars with the highest appreciation in the local car market.
Note: We can’t guess the future either, so we’ll list the cars based on the previous 4 years of market history, as most people who purchase a vehicle as an investment are most likely to sell it within 4 years.
Suzuki Alto
If you have 22 lacs PKR and want to secure your investment, Alto is the best choice. It was launched in 2019 with a base price of 13 lacs PKR. Within 5 years, the car has appreciated to 10 lacs PKR (23 lacs for the base VX variant).
In 202, its invoice price increased to 50k PKR. So, if you bought this car for 13.5 lacs PKR in 2020, considering today’s price, you can resell the car for 22-23 lacs PKR.
This means that your 13.5 lacs PKR has been appreciated to 60% within 4 years. That’s a jaw-dropping appreciation for this priced car.
Still, after the price hike, this car is in great resale demand in the used market, and you probably don’t have to wait while selling it.

Honda City
In 2020, the Honda City was priced at 27 lacs PKR. Within four years, the car appreciated 48% of its original price. Now, if you bought this car for 27 lacs PKR 4 years back in 2020, you can resell the car for 36 lacs PKR in the used market, which is about 28% appreciation.
The reason for its appreciation is that in 2021, Honda introduced the new generation of City, so the 2020 model, which was an older generation, has a lower appreciation. But, in the upcoming 4 years, Honda doesn’t seem to launch any new generation, and you might resell the car with a good appreciation in 2028.

Toyota Corolla
In 2020, the Corolla was priced at 38 lacs PKR. Within four years, the price had increased to over 59 lacs PKR. If you bought this car for 38 lacs (XLi), you can sell it now for 42 lacs PKR. That’s a 10% appreciated price only.
We know that’s the lowest appreciated price, but it has something to do with the Corolla’s market image. This car is mainly considered the car of the upper-middle class. The new price of the Corolla is 70 lacs PKR in the invoice, and that’s out of the budget for any upper-middle-class family.
These types of consumers can spend a maximum of 45 lacs PKR on a 2020 Corolla. Otherwise, there are many other great and brand-new options than the used 2020 Corolla.

MG HS
Launched in late 2020, its starting price was 55 lacs PKR. Just after four years, it’s now priced at 80 lacs PKR. That’s right—about 45% appreciation in four years.
If you visit the market and sell the same 2020 model, its market offering will be 62-63 lacs PKR. That’s nearly 15% appreciation in 4 years. Not too much, right?
The reason lies in its brand origin. MG markets itself as a British brand, but it is now entirely Chinese-owned. In 2005, MG, based in the UK, declared bankruptcy and handed all its operations to a group, SAIC. The company is now owned by SAIC Motor, a state-owned carmaker based in Shanghai, China.
However, we still state that MG is a way better option than buying a used Corolla if you don’t care about the resale and your only preference is comfort, performance, cabin space, and drive quality.

Honda Civic
Among all the cars mentioned in the list, the Civic has the highest appreciation rate. The reason is simple: In four years, its price has appreciated by over 175%. In 2020, its invoice price was 37 lacs PKR, and after four years, it’s now priced at 1.05 crore PKR.
A 2020 used Civic will sell for at least 64 lacs PKR for the base variant. That’s a whopping 73% appreciation, the highest appreciation for a car in Pakistan’s history.
Although the Civic has many manufacturing issues, including built quality, cabin noise leakage, steering rack issues, sensitive suspensions, and improper sitting posture for most people, the Civic is still a phenomenon in the Pakistani market and has maintained its resale over the years.
