We also told you about the vehicles, it is going to launch in Pakistan. However, we have an update for you because apparently there is a change of plans.
Earlier Car Launch Plan
The media reports suggested that , the German company would manufacture its Amarok Truck and Transporter Van in Pakistan. Amarok Truck was set to compete Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max. Meanwhile, Transporter was the competitor of Hyundai Grand Starex and Kia Grand Carnival.
Change of Plans
As mentioned earlier, there is change of plans and we got this update during our podcast with Engineering Development Board (EDB) senior official Asim. “Volkswagen contacted us and told us that Amarok Truck and Transporter Van have been discontinued internationally, hence, they want to replace them with two new cars,” the official told us.
Further sharing the details, he said that the company want to utilize its greenfield till 2026.
Possible New Launches by Volkswagen
As per the official, Volkswagen is planning to launch SUVs or mini SUVs of Skoda and Volkswagen in Pakistan. So, it means that they are going to launch passenger vehicles, instead of commercial trucks now. “They would launch these cars initially,” he said.
Now, the big question is which could be the SUVs by Volkswagen and Skoda, we will get. It could be:
- Volkswagen Taos, a C-segment SUV
- T-roc, a B-segment SUV.
Meanwhile, we can also get:
- Skoda Kodiaq, a D-segment crossover SUV.
But nothing is finalized, so lets keep our fingers crossed and wait for the launch of vehicles by Volkswagen in 2023. And we wish very best of luck to the company and hope for a successful stint in the local market.
You can listen about this news in this video from 47:13 onwards.
Volswagen Taos and T-Roc would compete against Kia Sportage and Kia Stonic respectively.
But is they want to lauch Skoda Kodiac better bring the Tiguan All Space.
It will be a nice lineup launch.
By the way Hyundai Grand starex is a van and Kia Carnival a mini-van.
VW I think is looking at market dynamics as well before launching their lineup. They have been in the looking phase since the last 5~7 years. Now that we have the LC issue as well as dollar rate going high and other assemblers shutting down operations, I do not see VW launching anything soon for at least 2 more years.
