Honda Working on a Toyota Corolla Cross Competitor SUV
Honda is eyeing the crossover SUV market with a bunch of upcoming models lined up. And we have got juice on one of them. Reports from Japan suggest that the company is working on a new crossover that will sit somewhere between the small HR-V and the midsize CR-V.
The upcoming Honda crossover has no name yet. But what’s confirmed is that it will directly compete with the Toyota Corolla Cross, Haval Jolion, and Subaru XV.
Here is everything we know about the unnamed Honda crossover.
Smaller than a CR-V
The speculated Honda crossover will fill the gap between Vezel and CR-V. There are reports that Honda will end the production of CR-V in 2022. And, by the end of this year, there will be a new lineup of three Honda SUVs, including this one.
Looks like an HR-V
A famous Japanese publication Best Car Web has shared two renderings of the upcoming Honda crossover. The renderings are unofficial, but the crossover’s design aspirations are clear. Traces of the current HR-V are evident in the grille and single-piece tail lights.
Another interesting observation is that the SUV’s design elements resemble the BMW iX EV.
Runs like a Civic
The upcoming Honda SUV shares the same platform as the new 11th generation Honda Civic. It will have the Civic’s 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine. Honda will also introduce a “self-charging” gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain.
Official Launch
From what we’re hearing, the new Honda crossover will make its official debut later this year, sometime around June to September 2022.
Nothing is official yet. But since the speculations are from a Japanese publication, they must be rich. Honda’s upcoming SUV rivals are taking shape. Hopefully, one or two will hit the international markets in 2022. That means the SUV game is about to heat up, and we are here for it.
