This is the eighth generation of Hyundai Sonata that was unveiled on the Pakistan Auto Show. It is a big family-size sedan that rivals Toyota Camry and Honda Accord in other markets in the world. There are many premium features that come with this sedan, and this generation has earned acclaim from motorists across the globe.

The design of both exterior and interior oozes elegance and premium standards. A showcase of this car is to depict to the Pakistani public that a Korean brand like Hyundai has come a long way to achieve prominence. Hyundai-Nishat is aiming to launch two sedans after Tucson and Sonata can be one of them.

Exterior

The highlight of the exterior design is the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that extend into the bonnet of the car. When turned off, they seem like part of the chrome strip that extends further into the bonnet. Hyundai calls this the gradient hidden light technology. Compared to the previous generation, this Sonata is wider, longer, and has a larger wheelbase. The exterior of this mid-size sedan looks like a coupe and oozes sportiness.

The taillights are LED and are wraparound, and headlights are also LED. As standard, you can get 18-inch alloy wheels that are also sporty. The new digital pulse cascading grille at the front adds to the sportiness and premium nature of this car. The LED turn signal at the rear is optional. Premium Pirelli tires can also be added as an option with Sonata.

Interior

The huge glass panoramic sunroof is the highlight of the interior. This glass roof can be opened and makes the cabin airy and roomy. The 8-inch infotainment system has both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. There is a fully-digital 12-inch driver’s instrument cluster that shows speed, rpm, and other essential pieces of information. The interior design is very futuristic; especially, the gear knob is very stylish. The seats come with Napa leather, which is soft and elegant to look at. The dual-tone interior is provided in beige and dark brown colors in this car.

Both the front seats are powered, and the steering wheel is shaped like that of an airplane. Cruise control function can be controlled from the steering wheel, and paddle shifters are also provided for a sporty drive. Other interior features include a wireless charger and dual-zone climate control. You can also order a 10.25-inch optional infotainment screen for your Sonata.

Performance

This car comes with a Smartstream G2.5L MPi naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with a front-wheel-drive system. There are different driving modes in this car, like custom and sport. The engine produces 177bhp and 232Nm of torque. The maximum speed of this car is 210 kph. It touches 0 to 100 km/h in just 9 seconds.

Comfort and Handling

There are many comfort features like an optional 10.25-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth multi-pairing and a Bose premium sound system. The rear seats fold 60/40 and provide convenience if you want to carry larger items and passengers. A head-up display (HUD) helps the driver to keep his/her eyes on the road. To enhance comfortability, the driver’s seat is 10-way powered. Handling is also impressive as this car is wider and lower to the ground compared to the last generation of Sonata.
