Is Pak Suzuki Really Ending Bolan & Ravi?

A couple of news reports suggested that Pak Suzuki is going to discontinue their minivans Suzuki Bolan and Suzuki Ravi. These reports further said that the company plans to replace the current Bolan with the 11th generation of Suzuki Every by next year. However, the news seems to be false. While answering the question to PakWheels.com, Pak Suzuki official simply said, ‘No’. It means there are no immediate plans by the company to end the journey of Bolan or Ravi.

The official didn’t comment on the issue further.

Reason Behind This Rumor?

Apparently, the reason behind this rumour is an order by Lahore High Court. In February this year, LHC directed Engineering Development Board, the regulatory body for the auto industry, to ensure that all car companies assemble vehicles with airbags.

While talking to the media, an official of the body confirmed that all local companies and importers have been asked to follow internationally accepted safety standards called WP-29, including the installation of airbags, by the end of 2021. However, the companies can get a waiver of 18 months. So, it means by mid-2023, all companies have to install airbags in their cars. This information shows that Pak Suzuki still has around two years either to update Bolan and Ravi or discontinue these vehicles.

Suzuki Bolan is in the local market for almost four decades and even though the car has no mentionable specs and features, it has remained among the top sellers for the company. The vehicle has been used for cargo, loading/unloading goods and by large families. One of the reasons for its popularity is the low price as compared to other cars in its category. However, Changan Karvaan, a MPV by Changan Pakistan, has given tough competition to Bolan. Karvaan has more features, comfort and specs.

Is good if Pakistan is adpoting the WP 29 standards, it’s mean they will be periodical technical inspections, in France for brand new car the first inspection come after 4 years after this is every 2 years, for second hand and before buying periodical inspection must not be older than 6 months before buying the car, and the inspection must be done every 2 years.
I wonder if such a thing exist in Pakistan ?

Once again, instead of cutting out the root of the problem, the public, people in power are floundering and acting idiotically. How many drivers actually wear seat belts even in Toyota Axio? The car is not supposed to start unless you clip one onto yourself, does not it show the level of inhumanity our public has bore down to?
