Is Registering Punjab Cars Outside Province Really Banned?
For the last couple of days, there has been news circulating on social media that a ban has been imposed on registering Punjab number cars in other provinces, and vehicles with non-Punjab number plates are not allowed in the province anymore. This, of course, caused quite a confusion among the owners, so we decided to dig in and get the authentic news. Here is what we know so far from official sources.
Are Non-Punjab Cars Banned in the Province?
To get an answer to this critical question, we contacted Excise officials, and they rejected the news, stating that it was totally false. “There is a policy by the Punjab government that any car owner with a registration number of another province, now residing here, can get a new Punjab number through re-registration, but it is not compulsory; it totally depends on the individual’s wish,” the official explained.
So, it is clear that if you have a number plate of another province, you can drive the said car without any issue.
Punjab Cars Can’t Be Registered in Other Provinces?
Coming to the second question, is there now a ban on registering Punjab number cars in other provinces, especially in Islamabad? Explaining, the official stated that the Excise department has proposed an amendment that the Punjab residents, as per CNIC, could only register their cars in the province. “First, it is only for private cars, and secondly, it is just approved by the cabinet,” he stated, adding that now this proposal will go to the Assembly for turning into a law, which obviously takes time, in some cases up to a year.
“When it becomes a law, then this new rule will be implemented from that specific time onwards,” he further explained, adding that there is no such rule for the time being.
We hope that this explanation will help you understand the whole issue and end the confusion about registration and re-registration.
