In a bid to facilitate the citizens of Islamabad, the authorities have introduced an SMS service to track the delivery status of the vehicle’s smart card, according to a tweet by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.

The government has recently launched smart cards instead of old conventional registration books for vehicles. However, it caused a lot of discomfort to the citizens of Islamabad who had to wait in the long queues to apply for a smart card for new vehicle registration, transfer or replacement of registration book. Once applied, they also had to visit the Excise & Taxation office multiple times to check the status of the issuance of the smart card. In this connection, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad tweeted to inform the residents of the federal capital that the authorities have made the process convenient by introducing the smart card delivery status tracking through an SMS.

In this system, a person will just have to mention his/her mobile phone number on the form for registration or transfer of the vehicle. The Excise and Taxation (E&T) Islamabad will automatically send the delivery status of your smart card on your registered mobile number. You will just have to sit back at your home and wait for the confirmation message of the issuance of the smart card. It would result in the convenience of the public as well as reducing the turnout of people at the excise office for just inquiry purpose. The message may look like this:

“Dear vehicle owner:

The smart card of your vehicle (XYZ-123) is ready for delivery. It can be collected from the Excise Office, Islamabad during office hours.”

Just a reminder, the conditions and required documents for the replacement of registration book with a smart card for the Islamabad registered vehicles are as follows:

  • The vehicle must be registered in Islamabad.
  • The vehicle must also be registered in the name of the applicant.
  • The applicant must submit the application along with the original registration book and a photocopy of CNIC.
  • The smart card fee is Rs.1500/-

This vehicle identification card contains the personal information of the vehicle’s owner and transfer history on the front side. The back side of the smart card contains information about the registered vehicle such as model, engine capacity, chassis number, engine number etc.
