Nissan Develops Sweat-sensing Car Seat
Every now and then, automakers come with strange features to catch the fancy of a potential buyer. From automatic seatbelts to swivel seats, from 3-wheel cars to car with a gold-plated engine bay, automakers have done it all. But it seems like they miss something that Nissan picked on; a sweat-sensing car. That’s right. Nissan has developed a car seat that can analyse your sweat on the go and tell you if you are dehydrated.
Basically the seat will change its color when it comes in contact with your sweat and detects high amount of salt in it. Losing high amount of salt means you are dehydrating. The now dubbed “SOAK” seat idea was originally developed and trademarked by Paulien Routs, a Droog researcher and designer.
But keep in mind it is not just some Japan chicanery. According to researches done by European Hydration Institute and Loughborough University, dehydrated drivers were as error-prone as those who had drunk alcohol. You start to lose your concentration. So there is a purpose to what Nissan did. But for now, there is no plan to bring the new seats to production.
The idea behind this innovation is not just monitoring the vehicle, but also the driver as well. No one knows if it will make it in future Nissan cars, but you can certainly understand what Nissan is trying to do with these new Soak seats.
