We have heard a lot of gossip about the future of the Pakistani auto industry. Many have made their guesses on how things will turn out to be in the coming years. Here’s a new one by Master Changan Motors Limited (MCML). The company anticipates the automotive market demand to grow twice as much from 300,000 units to 650,000 units in the next 5 years.

Unlike others, Changan Pakistan is not just making random guesses. The company has done its homework to believe what they said. According to Master Changan Motors, the recent population trend shows around 10 million young males to become independent earners in just half a decade, creating a demand for 350,000 more cars in the industry.

Action Plan of Changan Pakistan

We learned about the speculation in Changan Pakistan’s first Vendor Conference held at the Changan vehicle assembling facility in Karachi. During the meeting, the CEO of MCML, Danial Malik, talked about the future of the Pakistani automotive industry and Changan’s role in the big picture.

Changan Pakistan is in it to win it. The company is making the right moves at the right times to meet the increasing market demand. The company has already started double-shift operations at its assembly plant from the 20th of May. As a result, the plant capacity has increased from 30,000 units to 50,000 units per annum (more than 66% growth).

Master Changan Motors also revealed its plans to aggressively localize its vehicles from the current status of 20% to at least 60% in the next two years. According to the CEO MCML, the localization will mutually benefit auto part manufacturers and the automotive industry as a whole.

This is the first time a new entrant has taken the initiative to gather all the vendors to discuss plans to work together. It’s also refreshing to see an auto manufacturer make plans and chase its goals in all seriousness. Go Changan!
