Pakistani Women Shaping the Automotive Industry

As we celebrate National Women’s Day today, we decided to highlight the four powerful women from Pakistan in the Automotive industry. Despite the fact that ‘automo’ is known as a male-dominated field, these influential women have honed their presence with commitment and perseverance.

Amna Mustabeen Baig – Engineer at Koenigsegg

Baig is the first Pakistani woman to join the Koenigsegg Automotives AB as a Supercar Automotive Engineer. Where Koenigsegg is a Swedish company famous for making high-performance cars. She did her Master’s in Business Management from the UK and completed her second Master’s in Supply Chain Management from Sweden. Previously she also worked for Volvo Trucks and Scania for about three years of her professional career.

 Dr. Sarah Qureshi – Scientist Who Built Contrail-Free Engine

Dr. Sarah Qureshi is a Pakistani woman scientist and an aerospace engineer entitled to build the first environment-friendly aircraft engine in the world. This contrail-free mechanism aims to revolutionize the aviation industry by eliminating the negative effects of carbon emissions produced by airplanes. Dr. Qureshi completed her engineering studies at NUST and her Ph.D. in Aerospace Propulsion from Cranfield University, UK. She came back to serve her country by founding the first commercial aerospace company in 2018, Aero Engine Craft.

Zenith Irfan – Female Motorcyclist to Travel Across Pakistan

Zenith is the 1st woman motorcyclist to travel the lengths and widths of Pakistan on her motorcycle. Born and raised in the UAE, she was bold and confident but unsure of her dreams. Biking was not her passion initially; she started wheeling as it was the only swift commuting option to her university in Lahore. She learned the art of biking from her brother Sultan, and later, these siblings went on a road trip together to Khunjerab Pass, a border between China and Pakistan.

Uzma Nawaz – 1st Female Mechanic in Pakistan

Our final pick will break all the gender stereotypes that disregard women’s equality. Uzma Nawaz is the first female Pakistani mechanic who is courageous and knows the art of repairing a car efficiently. Belonging from Multan, she joined a Toyota dealership after completing her graduation. Her dedication led her to master the art of inspecting engines and doing a variety of mechanical tasks.

These inspiring women play as a torchbearer for all the upcoming generations. They have broken the barriers of gender biases with their tenancy and conviction with the motto that if they can do it, YOU can, too!
