Have you heard about the new French crossover in town? Lucky Motors has launched a premium B-segment crossover, Peugeot 2008. The car has raised many eyebrows in the local market, mainly because of its price.

After a detailed comparison of Peugeot 2008 vs KIA Stonic, let’s put the French crossover head-to-head with its other direct competitor, MG ZS

Size

Dimensions-wise, MG ZS is bigger than Peugeot 2008. ZS is 4,314 mm long, 1,809 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall. Peugeot 2008 is 4,300 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,550 mm tall.

Power

ZS comes with a 1.5-litre VTi-tech non-turbo engine, capable of producing 112 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque, with a 4-speed automatic transmission. 2008, on the other hand, comes with a 1.2-litre turbo engine that produces 130 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

From what we have on the paper, Peugeot 2008 is more powerful than MG ZS.

Looks

Styling-wise, Peugeot 2008 Allure (the upper variant) is the perfect definition of European beauty. The crossover’s beautiful chrome grille, signature 3-claw LED headlights, and DRLs give it a sporty and aggressive look.

Unlike 2008, ZS’ looks are not its strongest suit. The car has a somewhat outdated appearance with a prominent front grille, halogen projection headlight design, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Everything’s fine with the MG ZS, but nothing really strikes out. So, we have to give this one to Peugeot 2008.

Features

Push start, smart key entry, and 6-way manually adjustable driver seat are the common features in ZS and 2008 Allure. For the differences, we have an 8-inch touchscreen, analog air conditioning, and premium fabric seats in ZS, whereas a 7-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control system, and premium TEP material seats with grey stitching in 2008.

2008 Allure has exciting add-ons such as panoramic sunroof, ice-blue ambient lighting, and wireless trunk opener. That proves 2008 is more feature-rich than ZS.

Safety

Both cars have six airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electric Parking Brake (EPB), cruise control, and rear parking sensors.

The French crossover has extra features such as High Beam Assist (HBA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Assist, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Front Parking Sensor, making it safer than its Chinese rival.

Price

Peugeot 2008 takes the win over MG ZS, without a doubt. It’s more powerful, more beautiful, more feature-rich, and safer than the ZS. Any compact crossover buyer will choose the French car over the Chinese one. The only thing that can make you have second thoughts is the price.

2008 Allure comes at Rs. 5,850,000, while ZS costs Rs. 4,399,000. The 15 lacs price difference is enough reason for anyone to skip Peugeot 2008 and go for MG ZS.
