The Federal Government of Pakistan has reduced the prices of petroleum products by up to PKR 0.73 per litre.
On 31 January 2019, the Minister of Finance issued a notification in this regard as well. The prices will be applicable from 1st of February till 28th February 2019. Note here that the price of petrol has been reduced by PKR 0.59 per litre, whereas the rate of kerosene oil has been slashed by PKR 0.73 per litre and that of light-speed diesel has been reduced by PKR 0.25 litre. On the contrary, the price of high-speed diesel has been maintained by the government; no change has been made whatsoever.
The new prices are as follow:
Petrol: PKR 90.38 per litre
High-speed diesel: PKR 106.68 per litre
Kerosene oil: PKR 82.25 per litre
Light-speed diesel: PKR 75.03 per litre
The previous prices are below:
Petrol: PKR 90.97 per litre
High-speed diesel: PKR 106.68 per litre
Kerosene oil: PKR 82.98 per litre
Light-speed diesel: PKR 75.28 per litre

While talking to the media, some of the people asserted that this reduction in the prices of oil products is a joke while some argued in favour of this reduction. It is imperative to note here that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recommended to the Finance Ministry that the prices of petroleum products should be reduced by up to PKR 4 per litre.
