Toyota has unveiled a stunning concept vehicle that reimagines the iconic Land Cruiser Prado: the ROX. This open-top off-roader, showcased ahead of the SEMA show in Las Vegas, combines rugged functionality with a bold, modern design.

The ROX concept, an acronym for ‘Recreation Open eXperience‘, is a testament to Toyota’s commitment to innovation and adventure. By removing the roof and adding a pickup bed, Toyota has transformed the Prado into a versatile and exciting off-road vehicle.

Exterior Design

The ROX’s striking exterior is a blend of classic Land Cruiser elements and modern design cues. The vehicle’s muscular stance, highlighted by flared fenders and large off-road tires, exudes toughness and capability. The front end features a bold grille and aggressive headlights, while the rear end showcases a rugged design with integrated taillights.

One of the most distinctive features of the ROX is its open-top configuration. The sliding soft-top roof can be retracted to provide an open-air driving experience. The rear section of the vehicle has been transformed into a functional pickup bed, allowing for easy transportation of gear and equipment.

Inside the cabin

The interior of the ROX is equally impressive, combining practicality with a touch of luxury. The cabin features weatherproof 3D-printed elements and vibrant Heritage Orange leather seating, creating a rugged yet stylish ambiance.

The vehicle is equipped with a range of advanced features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a premium sound system, and a host of driver-assistance technologies. The interior also boasts thoughtful touches like built-in safety kits and webbing storage solutions.

Performance and Capability

The ROX retains the powerful turbocharged 2.4-liter engine and eight-speed automatic transmission from the standard Land Cruiser Prado. However, Toyota has made several modifications to enhance the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. These include a louder exhaust system, upgraded steering, custom front axles, a long-travel suspension, and 37-inch off-road tires.

The ROX’s impressive ground clearance, advanced four-wheel-drive system, and robust construction make it well-suited for tackling challenging off-road terrain.
