Which engine oil is better for your car?

When you are buying engine oil for your car, it is essential to know about the grading of engine oil you are about to buy. Engine oil comes in two grades: single-grade and multi-grade.

Nowadays multi-grade engine oils are being used rather than the single-grade ones. The multi-grade engine oil is better than the single-grade oil because its viscosity does not get affected much by the changes in temperature. The viscosity of single-grade engine oil is more sensitive to temperature changes

Engine oils come with a W rating which gives you a number. The lower the number that precedes the W, the better the engine oil is for winters. The higher the number, the better the engine oil is for summers.

Largely there are four kinds of engine oils available on the market. These include fully-synthetic, semi-synthetic, conventional and high-performance engine oils.

Fully-synthetic oil has a high level of viscosity and a better oxidation process. It also prevents sludge formation in the oil. This improves the fuel economy of the vehicle and the engine does not drag.

How To Change Car Engine Oil?

Synthetic blend or semi-synthetic engine oil is cheaper than the fully-synthetic oil. This type of oil shares some of the additives of fully-synthetic engine oil. Its viscosity is not very sensitive to temperature changes.

Conventional engine oil is made for light-duty and conventional engines. Therefore, it is much cheaper than the abovementioned types of engine oils.

High mileage engine oil is made for those vehicles that have been driven more than 100 km. It also helps in preventing oil seepage or leakage.

In order to manufacture engine oil, different kinds of base oils are used. Thereafter, many additives and products are added to the base oil to manufacture engine oil for your vehicles. The base oil used has a mineral component and a synthetic component. The base oil is around 80 to 90 percent of the engine. The rest are additives that change the grade of the engine oil. The base oil also determines the viscosity of the engine oil.

    WRONG INFORMATION:

The higher the number, the better the engine oil is for summers. If you are living in hot climatic areas like Lahore and Islamabad, do not opt for a 0W grade oil. This is because it is expensive and will not do much good for your car.

Agreed. Most of the modern engines require 0W-20 oils and if you opt to use thick oils, engine doesn’t run smooth. Both acceleration and fuel economy gets worse.
