The government has increased the prices of petroleum products in the country. The updated price list along with the previous tariff and price difference is as follows.

Product New Prices – Rs/litre (w.e.f 1-3-18) Existing prices – Rs/litre (w.e.f 1-2-18) Price difference (PKR)
Petrol (92 RON) 88.07 84.51 3.56
Diesel (HSD) 98.45 95.83 2.62
Diesel (LSD) 65.3 64.3 1.00
Kerosene Oil 76.46 70.18 6.28

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) sent a proposal to increase the prices of petroleum products on 27th Feb. Here are the proposed per litre price increase by OGRA.

  • Petrol: PKR 3.56 per litre
  • High-Speed Diesel: PKR 6.94 per litre
  • Light Diesel: PKR 1 per litre
  • Kerosene Oil: PKR 6.28 per litre

Except for the proposed new price of high-speed diesel, the government has increased the price of petrol (motor spirit), low-speed diesel, and kerosene exactly as was proposed by OGRA. The proposed rate of HSD was PKR6.94 a litre, but the applied price increase is PKR2.62.

When the prices were increased in the last month, various commerce and business bodies criticised the price hike. And now considering the new price increase, the same reaction can be expected this time as well. The high-speed diesel is a common fuel for all the transporting vehicles, and the government is of the opinion that increasing the price of diesel will also increase the rates of household products.
