Punjab Govt Makes Motor Registration Easy For You!

Punjab government has provided another great facility to owners of new cars and motorcycles. Under the new scheme, dealer vehicle registration system (DVRS), the province has given specific dealers authority to issue registration and license plates on the spot. According to the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department, the initiative is being taken under the “Traffic Reforms in Punjab” program.

Under the new program, the new consumers will have the following facilities:

  • Registration, issuance of new license plate on the spot through a dealer
  • Registration available even after office hours
  • Proper data collection through the online system
  • No ques, no wait 
  • Time-saving, no hassle

According to the Excise and Taxation Department, it has taken well-reputed dealers with good market standing as its partners. “These dealers will be given license under Punjab Motor Vehicle Transaction Licensees Act 2015, the department said, adding that these dealers will have access to centralized Motor Transport Management Information System (MTMIS) of Punjab government.

Procedure: 

Under this new program, the dealers will take the registration fee and a fixed convenience/service charge from the costumers, register the new vehicle through the registration system and issue the license plate on the spot.

The Excise and Taxation Department said the dealers will be responsible for:

  • Depositing fee dues to the government
  • Entering Data regarding motor registration
  • Deliver registration documents after posting challan to concerned Motor Registration Authority (MRA)
  • Maintaining the record for five years and making it available for audit, along with no violation of rules
  • Displaying the rates of all deals at dealership point

Registration Fee: 

The department has said the dealers must not charge more than rates given below:

  • Motorcycles/Rickshaw Rs500
  • Motorcar/ Commercial Vehicles Rs2000

The Excise and Taxation Department has issued list of specific dealers on its website.

It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab government launched a paperless driving license system for the drivers in the province. The system is launched by Rawalpindi Police in collaboration of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The government is taking these steps after presenting the new budget for FY2020-21.
