After the expiration of SRO1571(I)/2022 on November 21, 2022, the Regulatory Duty (RD) on Electric Vehicles (EVs) has been removed. Henceforth Audi e-tron prices saw a considerable drop today. According to a notification by the company, these are new ex-showroom prices of the Audi e-tron and e-tron GT.

New Audi e-tron Prices

  • The new price of the e-tron 50 is Rs. 22,300,000 compared to Rs. 32,450,000. It means the car has observed a drop of Rs. 10,150,000
  • e-tron SB price has been decreased by Rs. 11,300,000 and will now cost Rs. 24,850,000 against the old price of Rs. 36,150,000.
  • Furthermore, the revised price of the e-tron GT is 34,500,000 compared to the old price of Rs. 48,325,000. This means the car price is down by Rs. 13,825,000
  • Lastly, the company has announced a massive drop of Rs. 19,500,000 in the price of the RS e-tron GT. The car will now cost Rs. 48,500,000 as against the old Rs. 68,000,000.

According to Audi Pakistan, these are new ex-showroom booking prices, which will apply to new bookings. Meanwhile, the cars displayed in its showrooms will be sold at old prices, although the company offers some discounts on them.

FBR SRO

It is pertinent to mention that FBR had increased the Regulatory Duty (RD) to 100% from 0%. The notification by FBR read that the hike observed in the regulatory duty imposed on electric vehicles “shall take effect on and from the 22nd day of August, 2022 till the 21st day of November, 2022.” And it seems that the government has not decided to extend this SRO, hence, the drop in these car prices.

A Strange Decision?

On the one hand, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is not issuing Letters of Credit (LCs) to the local car companies for CKD kits due to the unavailability of US dollars. On the other hand, the prices of these imported cars have dropped as RD is removed. The question is to be asked will it not pressure the forex exchange as the dollar will go out of the country, or will it not leave an impact on it? What do you think? Even the cheaper Audi e-tron worth 22 300 000 PKR, Instead is better to by a Mercedes GLB 7 seats for 16,000,000 PKR.

Someone sleeping on the job at FBR. I am sure new SRO will be issued or the old one renewed with same or higher RD.

Only less than 1% people but such cars . We need to focus on locally built cars and reduce its prices to support local industry and personnel.

    Pakistan bureaucracy, i don’t understand anything, i don’t know a lot ?

It’s the Idea, but were a tiny Market of 250 000 cars sold each years.
Audi in the past wanted to built an assembly plant, but Audi give up.

Why not to allow other companies who can produce locally manufactured electric cars with cheaper price. The more electric cars we will have the less dollars will be spent on import of oil, hence reducing the outflow of foreign reserve. It will have long term impact if planned carefully.
Govt can install solar setup electric charging stations to reduce the energy costs and allow charging during day time with nominal charge. Everyone will shift to electric cars and we will see huge drop in oil imports. Pakistan direly needs cheaper electric cars to surive and compete with others. Even our traditional rival India has started locally production of electric cars. Very soon they will start selling cheap electric cars to entire region and we lame nation will be only consumers and remain economic slave for another century. Our country is controlled by idiots whose prime objective to guard their personal interest and accumulate haram wealth to become filthy rich.

Electric cars is a more complicated matters. Just because the taxes are lower in our country, dosn’t mean they come cheaps, as for example a Mercedes GLB ICE car is cheaper than the Audi E-tron.
Electric won’t kill ICE but it will provide an alternative for the people who want to drive a “cleaner”, until everyone will be aware of the pollution the ICE is producing, not only dangerous for the environment but as well health.
A reminder about our country, 1/3 of our population cannot access electricity, Bad economic situation, almost non existent infracstucture for EV’s, the only one buying EV (excluding hybrid) are the rich people, who will drive it only in the city they live.

Someone up there wants to bring in a large consignment of these cars. Once done, the RD will be restored and he will increase the prices back to earn huge profit. The “halal corruption” way.
