The new Toyota Corolla 2017 has quickly become a hot favorite of Pakistani consumers after its launch not too long ago. But the new car brought new sort of problems with it. And I am not talking about any sort of mechanical problems. The process of booking a new car is already kind of confusing and time-consuming. Also, the dealerships try their best to detract the consumers in case of long waiting times. Recently, it was reported that some Toyota dealerships have started to force the new Corolla buyers to buy Toyota’s additional extended warranty stating that it is part of the package and the new car will not be booked without paying PKR9500 extra.Although the extended warranty package has its benefits and gives you a piece of mind that your car is covered for three years or 75,000 kilometers (whichever comes first).

Although the extended warranty package has its benefits and gives you a piece of mind that your car is covered for three years or 75,000 kilometers (whichever comes first), but it is in no way compulsory. Same was the case with the prepaid periodic maintenance package.

Numerous consumers reported this to not only to Toyota Indus Motors, but some also took the initiative and contacted the Competition Commission of Pakistan regarding this forceful purchase. One of our regular readers and PakWheels member brought this particular matter to our attention so that we can bring the voice of new Corolla buyers to other potential customers.

And now Toyota Indus Motors has made it clear that it is in no way their policy. The dealers were actually forcing these optional features as mandatory to new buyers on their own accord. Toyota featured the above-posted image on its website stating that both extended warranty and prepaid maintenance are optional packages. But it has to be said that Toyota Pakistan has not clearly mentioned that its dealers were bullying its buyers into buying these additional packages.

The periodic maintenance package costs extra Rs38000. That is a not a small amount. And Toyota Pakistan should have taken responsibility and apologized to its affected yet loyal buyers.
