After Japanese, Chinese, and Korean vehicles, Pakistan has now officially welcomed the first French car in the country. Lucky Motors has imported Peugeot 2008, a European crossover SUV, in Pakistan. We don’t know much French, but Bonjour, Peugeot!

As per reports, Lucky Motors will use the imported  SUV unit for trials and tests. If things go as planned, the company will sell locally assembled Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) Peugeot cars in Pakistan, soon.

Lucky Motors is the same brand that brought KIA cars into the country. Remember the time when KIA Lucky Motors Limited changed its name to Lucky Motors Corporation Limited? We told you then that the reason behind this move was Lucky Motors’ long term plan of partnering with more car brands, not just KIA. Peugeot Société Anonyme (or the PSA Group in English) is one of those brands.

Lucky Motors Limited signed an expression of interest (EoI) and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the PSA Group of France in May 2020. As per the agreement, Lucky Motors shall assemble, manufacture, market, distribute, and sell PSA passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Pakistan.

Peugeot 2008 SUV

The first Peugeot car Lucky Motors is planning to introduce in Pakistan is the Peugeot 2008. It is a B-segment subcompact crossover SUV. The latest second-generation Peugeot 2008 debuted in June 2019. The SUV comes with a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.

The French crossover SUV will have a couple of potential rivals in the local Pakistani market. Kia Sportage, MG HS, Hyundai Tucson, Proton X70, and DFSK Glory 580 Pro. Notice how colorful the SUV segment of the Pakistani auto market is (Ma Sha Allah!). No doubt, the Peugeot 2008 will be icing on the cake.

We are excited to see how things go with Peugeot 2008. We’ll find out more about the launch date and expected price of the first French SUV in Pakistan and keep you posted. Stay tuned!
